Di Renzo Brollo I read "If you lose your damage," his debut novel struck me because it seemed a beginner's book but a work of a mature author. I had liked the setting, characters, story and descriptions, but I found it weak at times in dialogue, a bit 'wordy and wood.




With "My brother died better, tragi-comic story set in a small town in north-east, Brolly is another step towards dominating the narrative technique and this time the dialogue is believable and beautiful without that stubborn desire to overdo it had partially affected the onset. Particularly successful and enjoyable in this test are the sketches of the narrow ambiente di provincia e la disincantata narrazione della follia degli umani a seguire qualsiasi possibile traccia del soprannaturale, fosse anche una traccia di sporco nel cesso di casa.

Se proprio devo fare un appunto, la lettura 'piscoanalitica' della vicenda è un po' troppo messa in evidenza e a tratti alcuni personaggi, specie la madre, parlano come se si fossero appena mangiati l'opera omnia di Freud.

Comunque, a parte qualche peccatuccio veniale, "Mio fratello muore meglio" testimonia another step forward in the narrative of this brave young author. I read with pleasure to the last row and recommend to readers, especially young people. We read the new Italian writers!
